Spring 2015 Photo Shoot

Last Friday we wrapped up the photography for the Spring 2015 Issues of Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet. While our photo shoots entail a lot of running around and toting bins full of knit and crocheted projects from location to location, we always have a blast. However, this time Mother Nature blasted back… with insanely frigid temperatures!

Cold photo shoot

It was challenging to get a warm, springy look in our photographs when our poor models were shivering even when we were inside, but JC, Kathy, and Danielle somehow managed to make the photos look bright and cheery. It’s amazing how different things can look through the camera.

At times, the reflection of the light off the snow worked to our advantage, but other times it was a little intense. Here I am trying to filter it with a sheet.

Oakwood homes photo shoot

Even though the weather outside was frightful, we had a fabulous time checking out the Oakwood Homes’ Carriage House Models in Denver during the shoot. These homes are spectacular, and the layouts are functional and attractive. All of us kept saying we could see ourselves living there. The people at the Oakwood Homes are wonderful as well, so be sure to stop by if you’re in the area.

We can’t wait to share our Spring 2015 Issues with you! Until then, check out the Winter Issues of Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet to hold you over. We have plenty of gorgeous patterns to keep your hands busy and your wardrobe stylish.

Photo shoot vocabulary

We just wrapped up our winter photo shoot, and as always, we had a great time! It is so much fun to see the designs we feature “in action.” We get to play around with different ways to style them, and we’re always saying, “Ooh! I’d wear it like that!”

During our shoot, we realized that we say some other things that might sound foreign to our wonderful models. It seems that we’ve developed our own sort of “photo shoot lingo” over time, and it can be pretty funny. Take a look at a few of the terms and phrases we throw around during our photography days, and try not to laugh at us too hard!

Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet Photo Shoot Vocabulary

This little guy – Kathy uses this cute phrase to describe just about anything from a garment to a prop. Example – Let’s get this little guy in the shot.

Model sitting
Getting down and dirty for the perfect shot!

Exorcist head – When we are shooting a garment from the back and we ask the model to turn her head as far around as she can so we can get her face in the picture. Example – How much can you exorcist your head?

Close up pretty shot (CUPS) – An angled shot that fades out into the distance. Example – JC, can you get my close up pretty shot?

Medical shot – A photo taken straight forward to show the details of a project. Example – Now get the straight-on medical shot.

Danielle’s see-through pretty shot – A photo of a project taken so you can see the light shining through the openwork. Example – Ooh! The lace on this shawl will be perfect for Danielle’s signature see-through pretty shot!

Head rotations – When the model moves her head around to give different angles and expressions. Example – Don’t angle your body too much because we want to see the sweater, but feel free to do any kind of head rotations.

Who needs shoes when you’re rocking an amazing poncho and your feet aren’t in the shot?

While JC takes stunning photos of our amazing handmade projects, I’m busy taking behind-the-scenes shots for Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet. Follow us on Instagram for more funny, beautiful, candid pictures of photo shoots, fun around the office, and so much more.

Behind the scenes at our holiday photo shoot

We have barely gotten used to the warmer weather, and we are already working on our Holiday Issues! These special issues are so much fun because they are full of great gift ideas, decorations, and beautiful garments and accessories you’ll love wearing during all the festivities. Photographing these issues was just as exciting because we got an early taste of the holiday season.

Holiday lightsWe wrapped presents, decorated our tree, and hung twinkling lights that really complemented the sparkly yarn used in some of the garments. We can’t wait to share these patterns with you!

Holiday guyAs always, we have some handsome men’s garments and accessories you’re going to love! They have a wonderful, subtle style that is easy and comfortable to wear.

Holiday girlOur talented Art Director, Kathy, made some impressive paper snowflakes for our backdrop. Aren’t they gorgeous? This sweater is truly stunning as well, and you’re going to love the stitch pattern!

Holiday amyWe had a blast and made a merry mess photographing our Holiday Issues! It was great to see the featured designs styled and “in action.” Many of them can be worn in several different ways, so you’ll be able to personalize your look and let your style shine.

Behind the scenes

We took some time out of the office earlier this week to photograph the fabulous projects for our Summer SIPs. These are special issues that you can pick up May 27th (Love of Knitting) or June 25th (Love of Crochet). It was wonderful spending time at such amazing locations, and we are excited to share some fun behind-the-scenes photos of our shoot.

Summer 2014 photo shoot

Although the weather won’t let us forget that it’s winter, we just finished the bulk of the photography for our Summer 2014 Issues of Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet! We want to thank the Denver Art Student’s League and the Country Fair Garden Center for allowing us to use their beautiful locations. Our talented Art Director Kathy and her wonderful friend Autumn welcomed us into their lovely homes to take photos as well.art planesWe had a blast photographing our Summer Issues, and we can’t wait to share these fun projects with you! Spring Photography

The beginning of the week was filled with fun and excitement for us at the Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet office. This may sound crazy since most of us are still gearing up for the holiday season, but we spent the past 3 days photographing the projects for our Spring Issues! Although it’s great to get back into our routine, we always enjoy the process of styling and photographing all of the fabulous designs we feature.

After seeing all of our knit and crocheted designs on the models, we must say that you’re in for a treat! The projects were impressive and beautiful all by themselves, but when we see someone actually wearing them we realize just how flattering and fashionable they are. We were also stunned by the beauty of our two offsite locations! Above, you can see part of the beautiful lobby of the AMLI at Inverness Apartments in Englewood, CO, along with their fully equipped gym. Below, you’ll see some of the gorgeous built in shelves at the Oakwood Model Homes in Green Valley Ranch, CO. Both of these locations were truly inspiring, and we had a blast shooting our Spring Issues. We can’t wait to share our latest designs with you!

A Visit to an Animal Rescue

Our last photo shoot took place at The Edwards Foundation for Rescued Animals. It’s a beautiful farm located in Parker, Colorado, that’s run by two retired teachers who love animals and want to make a positive difference.

There were all kinds of cute, curious animals wandering around during our photo shoot including horses, llamas, and chickens! Our Art Director Kathy snapped a few behind-the-scenes photos to share with you.

As you can see, the animals added a fun, playful element to our day. While one of our models was getting ready to pose for a photo, a chicken ran by in the background.

A little horse was curious to know what was in Jen’s knitting bag!

Animal rescue parkerWe felt lucky to be able to spend our day at the farm. If you’re in the area, try to plan a trip to the farm, or if you are so inclined, donate to help support the important work they do.

The farm welcomes visitors to come spend time with the animals. They’ve worked with groups of scouts, special needs classes, emotionally disabled kids, and foster kids. They also offer spinning and weaving classes to make use of the fiber gathered from their llamas (knitters take note!).
