Happy Thanksgiving!

We here at Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving tomorrow. If you find yourself in the mood to make a crafty project for Turkey Day, we have a fun and festive idea any yarn lover will enjoy.

Our Art Director, Kathy, made this clever turkey using knitting needles, 2 cakes of yarn, and a bit of tape. The best part is that she also created a template so you can print the face and feathers to make one yourself! This would be a great project to create with all of the kids at your Thanksgiving dinner, and we think crafty activities like this make family time extra special.

From all of us here at Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet, Happy Thanksgiving!

Quick Crocheted Gift Guide – Chocolate neck warmer

For this week’s quick crocheted gift idea, we are excited to share a beautiful free pattern from our website. The Chocolate neck warmer is worked using post stitches, and the result is a thick ribbed fabric that almost looks knitted! You can crochet this versatile accessory in one day, then add unique buttons to put the finishing touch on the project and personalize it for the lucky recipient.

neck warmerYou can wear this neck warmer with the buttons in the front or on the side, and it is the perfect size way to stay cozy without adding a lot of bulk. The best part is, this beauty stitches up fast enough that you can make one for several of your favorite people.

What are some of your favorite projects to gift? Stop by our blog again soon because you can look forward to a new crocheted gift idea from us every week throughout the holiday season!

Crochet Along – Convertible Cashmere Sweater – The back

convertible cashmere back finishedWe’ve finished the back of our Convertible Cashmere Sweater, and we can already tell that this top is going to become an instant favorite. After working the arm shaping, the rest of the back stitched up in no time. Next, I’ll begin making the front of my sweater, and I can’t wait to see it begin to take shape.

We hope you’re taking this opportunity to crochet this beautiful sweater along with us. How is yours coming along? Remember, we love seeing pictures of your works-in-progress! Feel free to email them to us, or share them on our blog or Facebook page so we can see what you’re up to.

Quick Crocheted Gift Guide – Wine Cozy

We are excited to share our first quick crocheted gift idea with you this holiday season! A bottle of wine or cider is always a welcome gift, but we crocheters want to add a thoughtful, handmade touch to our presents. Marly Bird’s Wine Cozy from our Holiday 2013 Issue of Love of Crochet works up in a flash and instantly transforms any bottle into a beautiful centerpiece for the table.

Wine cozy

I used a small amount of yarn from my stash and crocheted this beauty in one afternoon, so I can truly say that this project is the perfect last minute gift idea. The best part is that the recipient can keep the cozy and use it the next time they give a bottled gift.

How is your holiday crocheting coming along? We’d love to hear some of your favorite quick crocheted gift ideas, and we’ll be sharing more fun, fast projects like this one every week this holiday season.

Crochet Along – Convertible Cashmere Sweater – We’ve finished our gauge swatch!

The Crochet Along we’ve chosen for our Holiday 2013 Issue will truly be a treat to make and wear. The beautiful Convertible Cashmere Sweater was designed by Lisa Gentry, and we can’t wait to get started on it! This holiday season, we encourage you to spoil yourself or someone you love with this gorgeous garment, and crochet along with us as we make it together.

cashmere yarn

The yarn used for this project is Cashmere by LB Collection, and it is such a treat to work with. I’ve chosen color 098, Natural, but there are an array of beautiful colors to choose from.

Convertible cashmere gauge swatch

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this heavenly soft yarn, so crocheted my gauge swatch as soon as we received it. I ended up using a smaller hook than the pattern suggests to achieve the correct gauge of 4″ for 3 petals and 12 petal rows, and I think my sweater will fit perfectly. You can see that I worked 2 rows of single crochet at the bottom of my swatch to mimic the actual pattern. Since I’m using a smaller hook for the petal pattern, I will also use a smaller hook for the single crochet edging.

I’m super excited to start the back of my sweater over the weekend! What about you? Will you be making your Convertible Cashmere Sweater for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone you love? What color did you choose?

Crochet Along – Convertible Cashmere Sweater – Back arm shaping

We’re off to a great start on our Convertible Cashmere Sweater, and I can only imagine it’s because Lion Brand’s LB Collection Cashmere yarn is such a treat to work with. Every now and then, I find myself taking a break from my crocheting to “pet” my heavenly soft project, but the stitches still seem to be flying off my hook.

CCS back arm shaping cover

I’ve just started the arm shaping on the back of my sweater, so I should have the back finished soon. How is your sweater coming along? We hope you’ve taken this opportunity to spoil yourself with this amazing yarn!

Spring Photography

The beginning of the week was filled with fun and excitement for us at the Love of Knitting and Love of Crochet office. This may sound crazy since most of us are still gearing up for the holiday season, but we spent the past 3 days photographing the projects for our Spring Issues! Although it’s great to get back into our routine, we always enjoy the process of styling and photographing all of the fabulous designs we feature.

After seeing all of our knit and crocheted designs on the models, we must say that you’re in for a treat! The projects were impressive and beautiful all by themselves, but when we see someone actually wearing them we realize just how flattering and fashionable they are. We were also stunned by the beauty of our two offsite locations! Above, you can see part of the beautiful lobby of the AMLI at Inverness Apartments in Englewood, CO, along with their fully equipped gym. Below, you’ll see some of the gorgeous built in shelves at the Oakwood Model Homes in Green Valley Ranch, CO. Both of these locations were truly inspiring, and we had a blast shooting our Spring Issues. We can’t wait to share our latest designs with you!
